Some of you probably know I have been spending the past two years redecorating my house and trying to make it feel more like me and less countryish.

Well most of it was just that, redecorating, pretty easy stuff. I'm pretty satisfied with the house now except for the kitchen. And to fix this is not just a redecorating job dry.gif laugh.gif It's an old plain country kitchen with big ugly appliances meant to serve for a B&B. It's dark and gloomy and the fridge is so loud it sounds like there's a helicopter landing in the kitchen when the compressor kicks in. tongue.gif

Anyway, the time has come and I've embarked on a pretty big remodeling job. cool.gif I'm not doing it myself but I intend to help out and learn as much as I can. Windows and doors are getting moved etc so it's way beyond me. tongue.gif Some of you that visited wanted me to share pics of the progress so I thought I'd share it with the forum for anyone who likes this sort of thing.

The first group of pics is basically how it looked on day one. Some of the drawers are gone and it's emptied so it looks barer than it actually was.

Some of the pics are similar angles I just wanted to get as many as possible for the before, during and after effect. smile.gif

Not alot has changed other than I'm crabby with being hammered and nailed out of bed early every morning. mad.gif My bedroom is right above the kitchen. bigcry.gif I might have to relocate to the Empress Suite. devilish.gif

After day four I was ready to have them just put it back the way it was and be done with it. 1orglaugh.gif

They have started rebuilding the inside walls and ceiling. The major work on the outside wall and electricity starts on Tuesday. bang.gif

builder.gif builder.gif

Some big advances this week. Still the boring stuff so bear with me. biggrin.gif The hydro has been moved outside so work on the outside wall has begun. thumbsup.gif By that I mean the main hydro wires for all the house happened to be anchored exactly where I wanted my doors to go so they had to be moved.

They had to punch a hole in my bedroom wall to re-anchor the hydro wires. I was not impressed by that. mad.gif I just glared at them then rolled over and went back to sleep. laugh.gif

New windows and patio doors should be going in in the next few days. smile.gif

As I understand the plan, inside hydro and plumbing goes in next and then the messy drywalling part. dry.gif

I thought I'd miss the fridge and stove the most (actually the fridge is still there, I can't get rid of it. laugh.gif Ah well, my beers are nice and cold. rolleyes.gif ) but I actually miss the water and sinks the most. I have dirty dishes all over the place. tongue.gif Washing dirty dishes where I wash my face really grosses me out. 1orglaugh.gif I think I'll start using paper plates. food-smiley-002.gif

Some of the drywall is up and everything is wired. cool.gif

Next week the outside wall gets insulated and drywalled, and the patio doors go in. thumbsup.gif

Why does this seem to be taking forever. mad.gif laugh.gif

builder.gif builder.gif

I haven't posted much of what has being going on the past week, it's been a real yawner actually. tongue.gif

Here's some pics through some recent steps...

Insulation was blown into the walls, what a difference it already makes. They did all the basement walls as well and anywhere they could get to basically. biggrin.gif

next came the part I had been dreading the drywalling and sanding. It wasn't too bad after all. Everything in the house had a fine coat of dust though. dry.gif

The patio doors are really late and still won't arrive for another week and a half. Good thing they're not holding anything else up in a major way.

Should be more interesting next week as the ceiling is going up and the floor is going down laugh.gif Walls will be painted final color too.

The patio doors are in, man does that ever change the room radically. smile.gif Floors start tomorrow. The cabinet bases are being built in a shop and are almost done. thumbsup.gif

I feel a little panicky as this just has to be done before my Christmas do. blink.gif costumed-smiley-jester.gif

The windows and doors are all framed in, the ceiling is top coated and the walls will be final coated tomorrow. It's just primer in this group of pics, the color is gonna be a deep mustardy (well you'll see soon enough biggrin.gif )

I like the way the original wood for is used for the window and door frames, what Donny didn't have from salvage he duplicated. Keeps the room matching the rest of the house still. thumbsup.gif

The schedule has changed a bit and next are the cabinets. They need to be placed ASAP so the counter top guys can come in and make measurements. tongue.gif The floor will be done almost last now.

Seriously seems to be behind schedule to me dry.gif but Donny swears it'll all be good to go for Christmas dinner. biggrin.gif Probably 11:30 Christmas eve dry.gif

Actually he keeps getting distracted by little odds and ends he finds wrong with the house so I guess that's a good thing, he's very thorough. tongue.gif dry.gif rolleyes.gif

builder.gif builder.gif

So it's official the kitchen won't be ready for my big Christmas dinner. dry.gif

I'm OK with it at this point, I dumped it all off on family and then informed them I would unfotunately not be able to make it this year. devilish.gif

The cabinets are built but the floor is going in first. The thing that is holding it all up is the counter top. It won't be ready until January. juggle.gif
