BUILDING A GARAGE

I'm having a garage built where I ripped the old one down so I thought I'd post some pics of the progress.

I'm going to help as much as possible and see what I can learn in the process.

The space is 40'X20' and was dug down 4' and filled up with some kind of gravel composite, then a buddy and I tamped it down. The concrete foundation is being poured tomorrow and as you can see by the pictures the trusses have arrived and are ready to go. I'm not sure what the square pieces are I didn't get a chance to ask.

These guys were here at 6 am this morning and it was very chilly out. It turned out to be a really nice day though. I took these from my bedroom window, it was way too early for me.

All I could think about was putting a net on it and shooting some pucks.

The cinder block base is next and that starts on Monday. Then it should be a blitz framing it in as the guys who are doing it are all hunters and there season is on.

Well we're finally rolling again. The cinder block base is up. Apparently it's going to go really quick now framing it in etc.

Guess the hunting season has ended.

Another project that's going in fits and starts.

A fair amount of progress today though. Windows and roof are supposed to be done by Friday. Good thing as we're supposed to get walloped with snow soon.

A llittle off topic

but...

Well the roof is on and just needs shingling which might happen tomorrow. I didn't get a chance to take pics as it got dark too quick, I'll post some tomorrow.

I took this picture earlier in the day to show what those square pieces were for, I think this is what Rox meant.

It didn't make sense to me until I actually saw them in place.

The roof is on and just in the nick of time.

They are supposed to start the shingles tomorrow but we'll have to see, at the moment it's still snowing.

This little thingy is on the back slope of the roof, I thought at first that it was a vent for heat to escape but that would be pretty ridiculous if one was trying to keep the heat in. There are a couple of those on my house so it must serve some useful purpose.

Or maybe it's just supposed to look purdy. Which it doesn't.

Moving right along.

...the kids want in.

Still getting some stuff accomplished even though it's been pretty freakin' cold.

The electrical wiring is mostly in place.

And the siding has started to go on.

Well that's just about it until the new year. Most of the siding is on, the bit left at the top and the soffits will be done in a couple of days. The garage doors are coming the first week of January. Painting and final touches have to wait until the spring obviously although once there's some heat in there we can start some of the inside work. We're going to build one of those peak like things over the door to match the doors on the house.

I'm undecided about whether the big doors should be red to match the house doors or if that will be too much, will do some tests when it's warm enough.
